I am gonna be Xerxes, who was devoured by mice.
There's a book "The Gashlycrumb Tinies" by Edward Gorey.

It goes like this:
A is for Amy who fell down the stairs
B is for Basil assaulted by bears
C is for Clara who wasted away
D is for Desmond thrown out of a sleigh
E is for Edward who choked on a peach
F is Fanny sucked dry by a leech.

And so on.
Mind you, the pictures illustrate these excellently.
