Now, I follow the belief systems of most Native American Tribes. I believe that animals have emotion, that Nature is a big teacher to man kind, and that we all have our own spirit helpers. ( If you notice, I place a couple Shamanism beliefs with my Predator RPG Characters) Now, I am NOT trying to convert anyone to this religion ( Everyone has free will), however, I just had this GUT-FEELING to show everyone here about the ways that Animals and Nature can teach you. You see, I believe that everybody in the world, has a spirit helper, or a Totem. Spirit Helpers are usually in the form of an animal. Wild or Domesticated. It does not matter which. The purpose of your Spirit Helpers, is to guide you through situations in life, by telling you about what you must learn. The problem is, you have to LISTEN to learn......Each animal has their own teaching. Even ones that Native Americans don't know about. Here's a website that shows the many Spirit guides (Scroll down a little bit to see more different animals) www.animalspirits.com/index1.htmlRemember, Spirit Helpers don't reflect on your personality, they are supposed to TEACH you to change to certain personality, in order to achieve a good life. Me? I honestly don't know what my Spirit Helper is. While I was working at a farm, I have gone through many things that point out that my guide might be Dogs. My dad tells me that dogs teach how to be good leaders and how to assert yourself. and honeslty, I'm not a good assertive man. I even have my own dog that may teach me the ways. My dog, Larry. I AM NOT TRYING TO CONVERT YOU TO THESE BELIEFS. I AM MERELY SHOWING THEM.

I love them...too bad those stupid, greedy a$$h*le colonists decided that the Native American land was their land. The Trail of Tears. Horrible. Absolutely disgusting and I am ashamed to say that I live on the soil of those...I can't even come up with a word. All I have to say is that the Native Americans deserve their land and their beliefs back (even though not all were forced into Christianity).
I wish I knew what my Guide was...if I have/had one. I am certainly not assertive...

Yes. It is quite ironic, how so many people and shaman, are disgusted about how the Colonists kicked Native Americans out of their land ( And nearly exterminated them), but at the same, time we LIVE here in the land where the Natives were kicked out. Yes. I hate the fact that the Native Americans were kicked out. I also hate the fact that many of the land's resources are being wiped out, even though I practically LIVE by resources ( I'm a full on carnivore ). However, atleast we have a one, or maybe more, GOOD thing. The beliefs that were left by them, so that shamans can live at peace with Nature, and people who pay attention, can learn from animals. From the tiniest ant, to the largest whale.

I'm ashamed to say that day-to-day life involves killing the smallest animals because we have a very bold line between nature and humans and they have no line. So when they cross over into our territory, we kill them Spiders especially...but I hate them anyway. They're good for the food chain, though... I am becoming an omnivorous organic-food-eater...I dunno why. Sooner or later we're all going to die, stupid humans don't realize that they're speeding up their own death!

Yes. Personally, I don't believe that Humans will die off soon, but it seems nearly obvious that mankind shall cause their own death in the future.
Well, you may not know your Totem now, possibly even never, but if you ever get any free time, try thinking about your problems, and think about experiences you've had with animals and the very nature itself.

So, if we're not Shaman or Native American is it possible to still have a spirit guide? Or is it only for those enthralled with N-A beliefs?
I have to think long about mine...

TO CETANU: What? Everybody has a Spirit Guide. Whether you believe it or not. Spirit Guides are meant to help ANYBODY who faces emotional, futuristic, or physical problems. One of the many things we have to share.
TO WARHOUND: It could very well be the Jaguar. The Jaguar teaches how to move about through chaos without ever being inflicted by it. It teaches the ways of transforming bad things of your past into the goodness of your future (Basically, Wisdom and learning from mistakes.....I think). They teach you how to react to a certain situation in the best way possible.

One of the many things we have to share. Well I didn't know. I thought maybe it was exclusive to those who are Native American and have the animistic beliefs...but thanks for the clarification. Would the animal be one we're around?

I learned that Native Americans only used Animism as their religion in which you give everything around you a spirit...I think they kept me in the dark some.

Very interesting shit's going on 'round my place.
I'm sort of realizing some physical and phsychological features that my dog (Larry) and I both share. Some parts of BOTH of our lives are similair to eachother. Even in characteristics.
Not to mention my ordinal walks I take in Forests and Wetlands. I'm seeing hoards of seagulls and ravens (Cool but .... not too good in aspects). Heck. A week ago, I found more than FIFTY Stingrays in the local wetlands!
Guess my relatives are right. You really do see more if you look for it.

I wonder what my spirit guide is, and Necrosis, I have been seeing hundreds of seagulls around my area too. But it is winter...? I'm not sure whether the seagull thing is strange or not. Spirit Guides are ALL around you. But they seem to show meaning to those who TRY to look for them. To understand more, people would have to take a spiritual connection with the nature all around them. Something I learned from relatives is meditation ..... I have troubles with meditating. I do not even understand if I'm in full meditation at times. But I will still try and try again.

NECROSIS:
I'm doing loads of research for ANOTHER story idea I have....and it includes Native Americans. Could you help me out since the Demonology one was merged into another idea, which was stopped for my Vampire story, which is currently being written.
